

Ceremonies for the official opening of the Port Loyola Library were held the 22nd day of May, 2002. Mistress of ceremonies was the late Mrs. Beverly Smith-Lopez who encouraged people to make good use of the library by using it with pride and dignity. The Library was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of Belize, Honorable Said Musa.
Former Port Loyola area representative, Dolores Balderamos-Garcia took the opportunity to thank and acknowledge donors who included, Cisco Ltd., Benny’s, Brothers Habet and JL.Quick Loan.
The Guest speaker was Mr. Juan McKenzie, the then Chief Executive Officer for Intelco. Other speakers included Mrs. Joy Ysaguirre Chief Librarian of the Belize National Library Service, Mr. C.B. Hyde Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Belize National Library Service and Pastor Arlington Anthony of the Port Loyola Baptist Church. Contractor for the Port library was Mr. Knox Arnold.
The doors of the library were opened to the public immediately after the cutting of the ribbon which was done by former Prime Minister Said Musa. The library was also the proud recipient of ten computers under the internet for school project. Other materials included a computer, monitor and back up, 2,305 books for the collection, vertical files, local newspapers, and local serial, international periodicals among many others. The INTELCO Internet Café opened with nine computers and nine monitors, which is free of cost to the public.
